Program Overview
The Public Utilities Commission has approved the Bring Your Own Device Plus (BYOD Plus) program. The new program is designed to help improve grid resilience, increase renewable energy integration into the electrical grid based on grid needs, and stabilize costs for everyone over time. The BYOD Plus program is also designed for qualifying low-to-moderate Income (LMI) customers to be eligible for a higher incentive rate if the customer meets the certification requirements.
Who Can Join
and What to expect on?
  • As a new customer, you will be required to purchase a new battery to participate in the new BYOD Plus program.
  • LMI (low-to-moderate Income) customers: now defined as those earning less than 140% of the Area Median Income, broadening access across income groups.
  • You will be required to have an advanced meter.
  • You will be required to commit to the BYOD Plus program for five (5) years and the total duration of the program is for 5 years.
Why Participate?
The BYOD Plus program allows customers to receive an Enhanced Incentive for installing a new battery and bill credits for dispatching during specified time periods, meaning energy stored by batteries may be used to stabilize the grid, as needed.
Upfront Incentives:
$400/kW for non-LMI customers and $800/kW for LMI customers.
Export Credit:
Customers will now receive a 1:1 retail rate credit for scheduled energy exports, creating a stronger value proposition for participation.
For example:
A customer that has a 15 kilowatt–hour (kWh) battery can commit 5 kW for 2 hours for a total of 10 kWh drained from the battery. The incentives they would receive are:
* Please note that this is an approximate calculation as the credit fluctuates with the customer’s billing rate and island where the customer is located.
